Marvin Kwock Chin Chun

Marvin Kwock Chin ChunAge 83, passed away peacefully on Monday, September 3, 2018, at Kuakini Geriatric Care in Honolulu, surrounded by family. Marvin was born August 22, 1935, in Honolulu, to John S.K. and May You Chun. He was a graduate of St. Louis High School and served in the U.S. Air Force. He worked as a jet engine technician at Hickam AFB for 36 years, until retiring in 1996. Marvin was devoted to his family, prioritizing his children's education above everything. He was a problem-solver, who never failed to find creative ways to fix things around the house. He enjoyed bowling, listening to music, crossword puzzles, and watching football on TV. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who knew him. Marvin is survived by his wife, Maxine Michiko (nee Nishiyama); his children, Maria (Todd Kuniyoshi), Marvin, Jr., and Melissa; and grandchildren, Evan and Emma Kuniyoshi. Services were held at Hosoi Garden Mortuary. Inurnment was at (Punchbowl) National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific. Arrangements Provided By: Hosoi Garden Mortuary

Kogoro “Goro” Sakima

Kogoro Goro Sakima passed away peacefully of natural causes on September 14, 2018 at the age of 96. He was born on September 8, 1922 in Hilo, Hawaii. He spent his early years growing up on Kam IV Road in Kalihi Valley on Oahu. His family ran a hog farm which Goro and his brother Akira later took over and relocated to Waianae. After the farm was sold Goro went back to school and earned a bookkeeping degree and worked for Holiday Mart until his retirement. After his retirement he volunteered with AARP for 25 years at their Kaneohe tax site helping the elderly complete and file their income tax returns. Goro is survived by his wife, Lois Ishikawa Sakima. Predeceased by his brothers Soei, Melvin Seiyei, Akira, Joe Kaoru, Yatsugi and sisters, Tomiko Miyashiro and Miyoko Shinshiro. Goro was a member of the Community of Christ, Ginowan and Ishikawa Okinawan Clubs. Visitation 9 am, services 10 am on Thursday, October 4, 2018 at Hosoi Garden Mortuary. No flowers. Aloha attire. JANET ELIZABETH SINGIn Memory of Janet Elizabeth Sing, 80, who passed away at Kona Community Hospital in Kealakekua HI on July 28, 2018. Born Janet Elizabeth Ketchin in Dixon IL on October 15, 1937, Jan graduated from Rich East HS in Park Forest IL and attended Indiana University at Bloomington. Jan's career in marketing and sales brought her to Honolulu in 1969. She held numerous positions in the Sheraton Hotels Corporation including director of sales for the Princess Kaiulani Hotel, and senior account executive for Sheraton Hotels of the Pacific. In 1975 she was named Sheraton's Sales Person of the Year and in 1976 served as president of the Hawaii Chapter of the Hotel Sales Management Assn. Later she was director of sales for the Hawaiian Regent Hotel before being promoted to director of marketing and advertising at the Hawaiian Regent In 1981, and for the new Mauna Lani Resort Hotel that opened on the Big Island in 1982. In 1981, Jan married the love of her life, Thomas Kam Sing and they resided in Honolulu until the mid- 1990s when they moved to Hawaii Island and built a home in Waimea. Predeceased by Tommy and grandson Benjamin Umialiloa Finley Stevens, Jan is survived by her son James Naeahuau Finley Stevens of Bull Head City AZ, granddaughter Beth Kelea Stevens of San Jose, CA, step granddaughters Alyssa Kahelewai and Kamaluhiakalani Eleneke of Oahu, and Loveal Sing and step grandson Kamakanaokeakua Eleneke, both of Maui. Jan was a 49-year member of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution and in 2000 was named the Organizing Chapter Regent for the new Hawai'i Loa Chapter on Hawaii Island. She served the Hawaii State DAR and her chapter in several positions. She was named Honorary Chapter Regent for Life in 2009. Jan was a long-time parishioner at St James Episcopal Church in Waimea. A Committal service and urn burial in the Memorial Garden was held on Saturday, September 29.
