ROSE SOLIDARIOS ARANITA96, born Oct. 7, 1921, left to be with her true love, husband Benito "Ben" Aranita on July 16, 2018. Rose is also preceded in death by her parents, and 4 brothers and 2 sisters. She is survived by her daughter, Anna (Carl) Ericksen and her grandchild, Megan Ericksen. Funeral Services will be on Sept. 11th at the Resurrection of the Lord located at 94-1260 Lumikula St. Waipahu, Hawaii at 10:00 am., a visitation, a mass & burial to follow at Hawaii State Veterans Cemetery, Kaneohe. Lunch to follow; location to be announced at the services.

He is survived by daughter Alice (Darryl) Nagano and son Peter (Sonia) Arashiro. Preceded in death by his wife, Masako Arashiro, and his siblings Ralph, Edith, Nobu, and Roy. Fred donated his body to the John A. Burns School of Medicine Willed Body Program, University of Hawaii at Manoa. No services.

Merle Homer Arnold, Jr.

Merle Homer Arnold, Jr.Born in Berthold, North Dakota on September 14, 1917. He passed away on May 7, 2018 in Kaneohe, Hawaii. His family left North Dakota for Nebraska when Merle was very young, and he was essentially raised in northeast Nebraska on various ranches. Sometime after high school, he joined the army and was posted to Hawaii on March 1, 1940 when he was twenty-two years old. Upon arrival he learned that he was to be stationed at Hickam Field. It was there that he found himself on the morning of Dec. 7th, 1941. He married Rose Kwai Lan Lum on January 5, 1943 who predeceased him on Nov. 30, 2009. He is survived by his three children: Patricia Ann Cantrell (husband James Cantrell) of Klamath Falls, Oregon; Merle Homer Arnold III (partner Daniel Dickey) of Santa Rosa Valley, CA; and Thomas Anthony Arnold of Kailua, Hawaii. In addition to his children, he is survived by his brother Robert Arnold of Colorado. He is also survived by a grand- daughter, Kimberly Cantrell Hanks, and two great grandsons, Trent J. Hanks and Travis J. Hanks, all of Texas. Merle had been a resident of Wilson Care Home since Dec. 31, 2015. A Memorial Mass will be held for him at St. John Vianney's in Kailua on Sept. 6, 2018 at 11 AM with inurnment to follow at Hawaii State Veteran's Cemetery. Henry W. H. Au1926 2018 91, returned to our Lord peacefully at his retirement home on July 24, 2018, with his daughter and son-in-law by his side. He was surrounded by close family and friends from his retirement home during his last days. He was first a businessman and entrepreneur with his first wife Myra Bow. After Myra's passing, he sold their business and worked for Schuman Carriage as a salesman for 30 years. He later married Eleanor Chong and they traveled and enjoyed their retirement years together. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. His grandsons meant everything to him. He was a kind and generous man, always thinking about his family and friends. He helped so many people with his generosity and thoughtfulness. There is a room at the American Cancer Society's Hope Lodge named after Henry and Myra in their honor. In his retirement years, he became an ardent poker player and puzzle master. He is survived by his wife Eleanor C. Au of 42 years, daughter Sandra Au Fong (Marvin), grandson's Nathan Fong (Jeong) and Timothy Fong. Henry was buried with military honors. All services were private.

Donald Kwock Mun Au

Donald K. M. Au Donald Kwock Mun Au, age 80, passed peacefully on September 4, 2018, at his home in beautiful Manoa Valley. Born in Honolulu, Donald graduated from McKinley High School and was employed as an engineering technician with 38 years of service at Pearl Harbor. In his golden years of retirement, Donald was a regular attendee at his grandchildren’s performances and sports games, active member at numerous RADAU gatherings and sibling lunches, and an avid bus rider. He is survived by his wife, Linda Au; daughters Darcie (Jon) Kawamura and Della (Michael) Belatti, sons Dean (Janelle), Larry, and Lenny (Jenny); thirteen grandchildren; brothers Daniel (Sau Jean) and Dave (Diane); and sisters Norma Lum and Velma (Francis) Fong. A celebration of Donald’s life will be held on Friday, October 5, 2018 at Hosoi Garden Mortuary. Visitation from 10:00 am; Service at 11:00 am; Fellowship to follow. Aloha Attire.

HELEN BENDETOctober 31, 1938 - September 10, 2018 Age 79, passed away peacefully on September 10, 2018 after a long illness. Helen was the beloved wife of Honolulu attorney Ed Bendet for 32 years and is survived by Ed and by her daughter, Selena Matelich of San Diego, and her sister, Thea Hutchinson of San Antonio. Helen was born and raised in Brooklyn, NY and moved to Hawaii in 1973, where she lived ever since. Before her retirement, Helen was a legal secretary and worked with Ed in that capacity for 10 years prior to their marriage. Helen had a deep love of animals and was a kind and caring mom to her dog, Rosie, and to her many feline companions over the years. Helen also loved flowers and other plants and before her illness spent many hours a day cultivating a beautiful bromeliad garden in the backyard of her Manoa home. She also loved skiing and enjoyed many happy weeks with Ed and friends at her favorite ski towns in the western U.S. and Canada. Helen had a wonderful smile, an easy and infectious laugh, a sweet disposition, and a bright, fun-loving spirit. She will be greatly missed and fondly remembered with much love and affection by her family and friends. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Helen's name to the Alzheimer's Association, Aloha Chapter, 1130 N. Nimitz Highway, Suite A-265, Honolulu, HI 96817. Private service.
