Yuko OReilly
Yuko OReilly YUKO O'REILLY Passed away on August 23, 2018 in Ewa Beach, Hawaii. She was born in Osaka, Japan on January 30, 1930. In Occupied Japan after World War II, Yuko met and later married Hugh F. X. O' Reilly, who was assigned to the 27th Infantry Regiment "Wolfhounds", based at Schofield Barracks, Hawaii. During his deployment, O'Reilly visited the Holy Family Home orphanage and was appalled at the children's poor living conditions. The story was popularized in the Hollywood movie Three Stripes in the Sun (1955). Throughout her life, Yuko joined her husband in supporting the orphanage, inspiring thousands over the years to continue the legacy started in 1949. She became known as the "Mother of the Wolfhounds." Yuko is survived by sons Hugh, Thomas, Sean, Peter & Patrick; daughter Maria; and 10 grandchildren.
