Genevieve Kalanikapu Reeves KaanoiBorn on January 29, 1944, to Rose Simerson and Henry Keanu Reeves, Genevieve grew up in Kuliouou as the 5th child of 9; Henry "Hank" (d) (Karen (d); Nanea (Dennis) Sai; Martha (Howard (d) DeMello; Sylvia/Sister Rose Henry; Robert (Lani); Louis (d); John Joseph (d); and Susan (d) (Herman) Texeira. A 13-year graduate of Sacred Hearts Academy in 1962, she then graduated from the College of Notre Dame, Belmont, CA, with a B.A. in 1966, and then worked as a social worker at the Dept. of Social Services in Hilo and Liliuokalani Trust. Devoted wife of Martial S.K. Kaanoi (d) since September 2, 1967, she was the best mother of 5 and Tutu of 16 - Maile (Leif) Sjostrand - Kealia, Meleani, Keahi; Momi (Neal Palafox) - Kekai, Kele, Kahoku, Lawakua, Laikukawaa, Lulukaokeawa, Luakalailani; Akoni - Keliiaumoana, Kalanikapu; Kalei (Aulani) - Kiinalehua, Kamanui; and Keliikahi - Kauikoakoa, Malu (d). She worked at HCAP and Alu Like, and in 1981, received a Master's degree in Social Work from the University of Hawaii. She also worked at the Department of Hawaiian Homelands, Job Corps, Child Protective Services, and finally retired from Queen Liliuokalani Children's Center in 2008. She loved the Lord and her family, enjoyed reading, cherished her grandchildren, and lived to serve God and others. Her faith, expressed as, "I know I will be with the Lord", was confirmed on September 9, 2018, age 74. We love and miss you mom, Tutu, sister and friend. "Aloha Malama Pono."
