DONALD B.C. "DOMINIC" CHAN
He graduated from Iolani High School, and attended New York Trade School and Louisiana State for technical training in piano tuning and repair. While in New Orleans, he had a part in the movie, "Panic in the Streets." He was a gifted musician-played piano and several other instruments, mostly self-taught. He enjoyed jazz and playing jam sessions with friends at home on Saturday afternoons. Last year, he recorded a CD playing and singing some of his favorite songs, produced by Kealoha & Michael Wong. He retired at age 50 from his piano and organ store-Fun Music. Ran the Honolulu Marathon in '80 & '81. Did exciting things like white water rafting, mountain rappelling, diving in a shark cage, scuba, and skiing --- always with family members. He was a world traveler --- two highlights were climbing the Great Wall in China and being in the inner Great Pyramid alone early one morning in Egypt. Golf was something he enjoyed with many good buddies. Got a hole-in-one in 1997. He became competent in plumbing and carpentry taking care of his apartments. One of his many talents was art ---- bronze sculpture. His many bronze pieces are a beautiful legacy. He was a great cook and set the standard for a whole family of good cooks. He will be greatly missed by his loving and extended "family." Lots of cousins, nieces, nephews and others he touched in caring ways through the years. Our thanks to cousin Lloyd "Spider" Wong, whom he called his "special angel." Don is survived by his loving wife Madolon, sons Bennett (Theresa) and Tyler Chan, daughters Bonnie and Merri (Steve) Gratz-Arce, stepdaughters Sue Kaiser, Pennie (Bob) McCarten and Lonnie (Ron) Bishop, sister Dorothea Li, half-brothers Peter "Quinn" (Connie) Chan, Bow Sum (Diane) Cheng, and William Cheng, half-sister Pauline Chan, grandchildren Jolie Gratz, Kelli Gratz, Cameron Chan, Raymond Kim and Christine Kim, M.D., step-grandchildren Brigitt Franklin, David McKee, Jasen McKee, D'Lane Korbus, Ken Kaiser, Raena Marshall, Tiare Weiss, and fourteen step-great grandchildren. Celebration of Life on Monday, June 28 at Nuuanu Memorial Park & Mortuary. Visitation at 4:30 p.m., service at 6:00 p.m. No flowers. Private scattering of ashes. |
