RICHARD D. EBER, CEC, USN (ret)

Born in South Bend, Indiana in 1938, Dick was raised in Detroit, Michigan, the youngest of nine children. In 1956 he joined the incoming class of 1960 at the United States Naval Academy at Annapolis. While serving 28 years on active duty he also did post graduate work at RPI and Stanford, retiring from the Navy in 1988. Tours of duty included Viet Nam, Joint Forces Japan, two tours with the Seabees and two in Hawaii where he was the Officer in Charge of Construction during the building of the Arizona Memorial Shoreside Facility and the Pearl Harbor Chapel. Decorations include the Legion of Merit, Meritorious Service Medal and the Joint Services Commendation Medal. Following his career with the Navy, Dick was Vice President of Construction Management at R.M. Towill, engineering firm, and Secretary/Treasurer of Long Term Care Hawaii.

Dick was a registered engineer and a member of Tau Beta Pi, engineering honorary. For 28 years he was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, serving twice as that congregation's president.

Survivors include his wife Laudra; son, Rich and wife Jan; son, David; and grandchildren; Rick (serving with the 3rd Marines in Afganistan), Jeff, Deni, and Michael, all college students; sister Pat Davis, of Palo Alto, CA; Beverly Tosch of Glenn Heights, Texas; Bertha Myers of Orlando, Florida; Delora Yori of Garden City, Michigan; and Gene Eber of Oxford, Mississippi as well as many in-laws; nieces and nephews and long time friends. He was preceded in death by brothers Ron and Bob and by sister, Ginny Bileti.

A Memorial Service will be held at St. John Lutheran Church, Kailua at 11:30 August 3. Interment Service will preceed at 10:00 am in the VA cemetery at Hawaii Memorial Park, Kaneohe.
