COL. JW IRELAND USMC (RET)
Born in Delaware in 1917, "Buck" was raised in Baltimore, and a graduate of the University of Maryland. In 1941 he became a Marine Corps Aviator. During his career of 28 years he flew Corsairs off aircraft carriers in the Pacific in WW II and was declared an "Ace" in 1944, C.O. VMF223; flew jets in the Korean War, C.O. VMF324; flew helicopters in the Vietnam War, C.O. MAG16. He earned numerous commendations including the Distinguished Flying Cross. Buck retired from the Corps in 1967 and started General Business Services in Kailua, consulting to small businesses on bookkeeping and tax preparation.
Loved ones include his wife, Virginia; daughter Sandra Ireland Bellizzi; son Michael Ireland; hanai son Alfred "Butch" Ireland; grandchildren Anna Bellizzi, Anthony Bellizzi and Schelin Ireland; great grandchild Sophia Bellizzi; nieces, nephews and many treasured friends.

Committal service and interment at Hawaii State Veterans Cemetery in Kaneohe 11:00 am Mon., August 9. |
