PRINCE ENEST KAANOHEOKALA KAWOHIONALANI
HAWAII HAS LOST A SON AND A LEGEND.... Prince Ernest Kaanoheokala( Rising of the Morning Sun) Kawohionalani (High Chief of The Heavens), 94 years old, peacefully passed away at 7:00am on September 20, 2010, in Savannah, Georgia. Born to William and Virginia Kawohionalani, on November 5, 1915, in Waikiki at one of the homes of Our Queen Liliuokalani, known as Paoaokalani. Queen Liliuokalani, who gave his Father, William, our Family Name and nicknamed Ernest, "My Little Ali'i" He was the youngest and only boy, with 6 older sisters, Alice, Mabel, Grace, Maggie, Eva and Irene. The first 3 were born at Washington Place and the rest at Paoaokalani. Ernest's father, William was one of the Queen's Personal Chanter. Ernest left Hawaii in his twenties to pursue what turned out to be a legendary career in Hawaiian music. He was a Slack Key Guitar Master and highly regarded entertainer, and actor. He has composed many Hawaiian Tunes such as "TIARE" and "KNOCK KNEE D NAPUA FROM KAILUA" and many more. He also was one of HARRY OWENS ROYAL HAWAIIANS, who performed at the Royal Hawaiian Hotel and their show was televised abroad. One of his closest friends was HILO HATTIE. Ernest and his bands had a HUGE following and they performed in Los Angeles, Lake Tahoe, Reno, San Francisco, and Hawaii at the original Lau Yee Chai. Other venues include, Bob Kaai. and The Giggie Royce Band at the Alexander Young Hotel, Walter Downing and Ted Dawson bands, Alfred Apaka, and many more. He also has appeared in numerous Movies and TV shows including Elvis Presley's BLUE HAWAII and the TV Series, FANTASY ISLAND. FINALLY, he met the LOVE OF HIS LIFE and SOULMATE, Judith Rose Peterson Kawohionalani and together, with her as an accomplished Polynesian Dancer, they performed in many venues. After leaving LA twelve years ago, he and Judy settled in Savannah, Georgia, her home state. He has a wonderful family who cared deeply for him and met all his needs. Although his Savannah, California and Hawaii Ohana's miss him dearly, we are in comfort knowing that when the PEARLY SHELL GATES OF HEAVEN opened that beautiful morning, Ernest was met by his family and many more friends and fans....Celebration of His Life was held September 22, 2010 at Bonaventure City Cemetery in Thunderbolt, Savannah, Georgia with his loved ones and friends present. Beautiful words of Remembrance was said by nieces, Megan, Melissa and Malia. Casket Bearers were his nephews, Robert and Richard and Brandon, niece, Malia and loved ones , Tony and Chris. He took a last ride in a Rolls Royce to his final resting place in the Mulligan Family Plot alongside his dear cousin, George. We want to send Love and Aloha to all he knew and touched the lives of. Our dear Ernest will always live forever in our hearts and minds...ALOHA OE....Ernest is survived by his Everloving wife, Judith Rose Peterson Kawohionalani, Wonderful Mother in Law, Annie Peterson, Sisters in Law, Jane Pagel and Kathie Morris, Nieces and Nephews, Megan (Tony) Mullins, Melissa Smith, Malia Alice Kawohionalani Akiona and Loretta Kawohi Feiteira, Norman (Marge) Mahuka, Robert Peterson, Richard Williams, Doug, Brandon and Kealii Kawohionalani Akiona and Numerous Nieces and Nephews in Hawaii and California, ALL OF WHOM WILL MISS HIM DEARLY..........Beloved Husband and Uncle, YOU WILL LIVE ON IN OUR HEARTS AND MINDS UNTIL WE MEET AGAIN..........
