ILUMINADA "LUMING" MEDINA SOTTO
Iluminada Medina Sotto, of Tanza, Cavite, Philippines passed away at the age of 94 on October 10, 2010. She was born on November 29, 1915 to Justina Dorado and Bernardino Medina of the United States Army.
Iluminada worked for the Philippine Department of Justice, Bureau of Prisons. She was married to the late Florentino Sotto of Villaba, Leyte.
She was a member of the Catholic Women's League, the Daughters of Mary, and a strong advocate of the Sacrament of Matrimony at our Lady of Peace in the Philippines.
In 1975, Iluminada came to Hawaii to join her father and siblings. She worked as a teacher's aide at Roosevelt High School for seven years until she retired.
Her retirement years were devoted to volunteer work at the Cathedral of Our Lady of Peace. She was a Eucharistic Minister, she coordinated the Annual May Flower Offering, and assisted in the Sunday masses in different capacities.
She was survived by four of her six children: Gloria Youngquist (Arvid), Florentino, Jr., Lourdes Silos, and Ismaelito (Nilda), three brothers, four sisters, and eight grandchildren.
Iluminada Medina Sotto will be remembered as a model of Christianity, a caring "Grandma" to her students, and a beacon of light to her family.
Wake Services will be at Our Lady of the Mount, with viewing on Friday, October 22 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m.
Visitation at Our Lady of The Mount Catholic Church 8:00 a.m., Saturday, October 23. Mass at 8:45 a.m. with burial at the Mililani Memorial Park at 11:00 a.m.
