John C. ChiangJOHN C. CHIANG
John Ching-Chung Chiang passed away peacefully on Dec. 9, 2010 in High Point, NC. He was born October 6, 1919. He was preceded in death by wife of 60 years, Betty Kuo Ma Chiang.
John is survived by his daughter, Mildred Kwan and son-in-law Hing of High Point, NC; granddaughter, Nicole Kwan of New York, NY; son, Han Chiang and daughter-in-law Shao-Wen of Honolulu; Uncle Feng Chiang and wife Yung S. and family of San Jose, CA; sister Li Chiang Wong and brother-in-lawYue Kai and family of Taipei, Taiwan.
John graduated from Fudan University in Shanghai with a degree in journalism. He was a translator in the National Chinese Air Force before Communism. While in South Korea, he worked for the United Nations Command Military Armistice Commission as a translator at the DMZ.
He moved to Honolulu in the early '80s and worked as a teacher for community college adult education, specializing in ESL and naturalization. After his wife's passing in '08, he moved to the mainland with his daughter's family.
John enjoyed reading, volunteering, and going to the movies. He always had the "Aloha Spirit."
A private family service was held in High Point, NC. His ashes will be scattered on Magic Island.
