78John A. Vares Jr., 92, of Haliimaile, Maui, a Maui Land & Pineapple Co. former supervisor and Kepaniwai Park elite groundskeeper, died in Kula Hospital. He was born in Paia. He is survived by sons Roger, Gary and Al; daughters Paulette Ramos, Stella Medeiros and Kathy Vares-Foster; brothers Abel and Wilfred; sister Dorothy Gomes; 16 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren. Visitation: 8:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Joseph Church. Mass: 11 a.m. Burial to follow at the church cemetery.
