Melvin Carl Soder, also known as "Herk" and "Pork Nose," 53, of Ocean View, Hawaii, a commercial fisherman, laborer and an Army veteran, died at home. He was born in Cordova, Alaska. He is survived by companion Winnie Brooks; sons Sampson, Thor and Hercules Soder, and Lloyd Gallettes; daughters Kristie Lozier, Napua, Lehua and Aaiyana Gallettes, Mindy Slate and Alicia Young; brother Louis Elston-Soder; sisters Lorna, Loralee, Athena and Teresa Soder, and Luana Pacheco; and numerous grandchildren. Celebration of life: 11 a.m. April 9 at "The Fort," 92-1995 Palm Parkway, Ocean View.
