Margaret Kretschmer Stewart, "Dody"
MARGARET KRETSCHMER STEWART, "DODY,"
Was born 8/14/21, in Denver, Colorado and died on 4/22/11, in Sebastopol, CA. She attended University of Iowa where she pledged Gamma Phi Beta. She worked at Fitzsimmons Army Hospital in Denver during the War and later for the Bureau of Mines in Boulder City on basic magnesium. After the war, she ran an insurance office in Long Beach, CA.
Margaret took the ship to Hawaii in 1946, where she met and married Alan Stewart while working at Theo H Davies & Company. Before their three children were born, Margaret volunteered with the League of Women Voters in Honolulu on water issues. The family lived in Hawaii until 1975, when Margaret and Alan moved to The Mainland and settled in Santa Rosa in 1979.
After Alan Stewart died in 1990, Margaret moved to Oakland where she worked with SHHH (Self Help for the Hard of Hearing) for several years to educate health care providers about how to work with hard of hearing patients. She moved to Sebastopol in 1998.
Margaret is survived by her three daughters, Julie Lucke (Bruce) of Rio Vista, CA, Jean Stewart (Hank Washburn and daughters Sarah and Anna) of New Sharon, Maine, and Heidi Stewart (John Weinstein and children Alex and Hana) of Sebastopol.
