Frederick L. Helm
June 2, 2011 Frederick L. Helm, 66, of Hilo, a retired Army colonel with the 5th Special Forces Division who served during the Vietnam War and Operation Desert Storm, died at home. He was also an Army veterinarian who cared for former President George H.W. Bush's dogs at the White House. He was born in McCook, Neb. He is survived by son Andrew K.; daughter Natasha K. Sloan; mother Helen; brothers Jim, John II and Mike; and sisters Kathy Brashears, Ceanne Rinehart and Laurie Helm. Committal services to be held at a later date at National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific, Punchbowl. Contact Natasha Sloan for more information.
