ALICE KAMANO RICHMOND
ALICE KAMANO RICHMOND December 21, 1928 - June 10, 2011 Our beloved Alice Kamano Pelayo Richmond passed away on Maui, Friday night, June 10, 2011, at 10:15pm. She was the 2nd child and eldest daughter of Melencio Galang Pelayo and Rose Kalei Na'auao Pelayo. She is survived by her children, Irmgard Ipolani Vaughan, Eric Miller and Branscombe (Lei Maa) Richmond, her two brothers, Alcario "Sonny" Pelayo and Alvin (Judy) Pelayo, and sister, Kawailani. Her legacy continues through her 12 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and 17 nieces and nephews. Alice adopted many others under her wing, comforting all with the embrace of ohana. Born in Honolulu, and living in Los Angeles for 55 years, she returned to her Mother's homeland, Maui, 7 years ago. She is remembered for her quick wit, and uncensored truths. She stressed the importance of pono through the unity and acceptance of each individual. Her famous quote, "Make Strong" will be carried on forever. We will be celebrating her beautiful life on June 26, 2011, from 2pm until pau, at her home in Waiohuli, Kula, Maui.
