Alan Baird Kidwell, age 70, a trusted tax and business advisor to many successful Honolulu business people, passed away on July 15, 2011.
Alan was the son of Baird and Margaret Kidwell. Baird was a successful Honolulu attorney and retired as a justice of the Hawaii Supreme court. Alan became known as a brilliant and creative thinker and at one time was an advisor to a number of well-known entrepreneurs and real estate developers in town. He graduated from Punahou in 1959, graduated from Yale in 1963 and served in Vietnam with the United States Army. Alan started his business career as a CPA with Alexander & Grant and then formed the successful tax advisory partnership, Obara and Kidwell, with his friend and longtime business partner Chester Obara. Alan left that partnership in the mid 1990's to join long time client Duncan MacNaughton where he was a loyal friend and a key senior advisor to Duncan and the entire MacNaughton Group ohana.
Alan was a thoughtful and sharing individual who relished his role of helping others achieve their personal and professional goals, and he truly excelled in that role.
Alan was predeceased by his son, Toby Kidwell, and is survived by his mother Margaret Kidwell, his sister Frances Findley, daughter Michelle Kidwell-Jones and son-in-law Keith Jones, daughter Tiffany Kidwell, son Joshua Kidwell, and grandchildren Crystal, Daniel and Tatem Jones.
Alan will be greatly missed for his wit, his wisdom, his friendship and his caring nature.
A service will be held this Friday, July 22, 2011 at The National Cemetery of the Pacific at Punchbowl at 8:30 a.m. A reception to celebrate Alan's life will follow from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 4339 Panini Loop in Kahala. Aloha attire.
