Geraldine (Gerri) Y. LeeGERALDINE (GERRI) Y. LEE
Passed away at home on September 27, 2011 at age 75.
She is survived by her husband Harold W. F. Lee, two children, son Jonathan (Missy) Lee and daughter Deborah Lee (Jason) Lau and 5 grandchildren, Megan Lee (Jared) Dear, Amanda Lee, Jonathan Lee, Jr., Nicole Lau, and James Lau. Also surviving are mother Grace Yap, sister Georgiana Yap, brother Eugene (Claire) Yap, and nephews David and Matthew Yap.
Gerri established the Waikiki Community Center and served as its first executive director for
25 years before retirement in 2000. In 1971, she spent a year in Repton, England and served as the visiting professor at the prestigious Bishop Lawnsdale Teachers College at Nottinghamshire. After serving as the principal of the First Chinese Church Preschool, she became the Director of Career Development for the Hawaii State Head Start Program. In the 1960s, she served as a member on the Commission on Population and Hawaii's Future under the Administration of Governor George Ariyoshi.
She was a member of the Outdoor Circle, Kiwanis Club, Waikiki Rotary Club, Delta Kappa Gamma, Aloha Grandmothers' Club, and the Tsung Tsin Association.
Memorial services will be held on Saturday, October 22nd, 10am at the Punahou Thurston Chapel. Aloha attire.
