Margaret "Maggie" Sweitzer WertMARGARET "MAGGIE" SWEITZER WERT
Margaret Jane Zilz was born Dec. 19, 1943, in Brownville, Texas, and died Sept. 20, 2011, in Grants Pass,Ore., where she lived for most of the last 20 years.
Maggie was raised in Beaumont, Calif., and moved to Hawaii in 1969 after marrying Sam Sweitzer, also of Beaumont. They had two children, Stephanie Kendrick of Honolulu and Sam Sweitzer of Sacramento, Calif.
Maggie left Hawaii in 1982, having spent most of her time in Honolulu running the plastic surgery practice of Dr. Robert Flowers. She returned to the islands often to visit her daughter and friends. Hawaii always had a special place in her heart.
Maggie was beloved for her good humor, generous spirit and ability to see the best in people. She loved taking care of others, cooking, gardening and animals. She was an avid reader and a wizard at crossword puzzles.
In addition to her children and first husband, Maggie is survived by spouse Dennis Vixie of Grants Pass; father Robert Zilz of Beverly Hills, Calif.; mother Billie Black of Beaumont; brothers Michael Zilz of Livingston, Mont. and Lenny Zilz of Seattle; sister Cathy Bagnara of Beaumont; and granddaughters Dallas and Sawyer Williams of Sacramento.
Services were held in Grants Pass and Los Angeles.
