Edward Bumatay, 73, of Hilo, a retired Hawaii County fire chief and a veteran of the Marine Corps and Coast Guard Reserve, died at home. He was born in Lahaina. He is survived by wife Marie; daughters Debbie Collins, Debra Kim and Mahealani Kauahi; brothers Raymond Bumatay, William "Kalei" Hopeau, and Wayne, Charleston and Collins "Kehau" Awai; sister Jennie Silva; and six grandchildren. Visitation: 9 a.m. Thursday at Dodo Mortuary. Services: 11 a.m. Cremation to follow at Dodo Mortuary Crematory. Casual attire.
