William “Bill” Toshiyuki HonjiyoWILLIAM "BILL" TOSHIYUKI HONJIYO
Age 74, of Hanapepe, died at home on February 3, 2012. Born July 16, 1937 in Hanapepe, he was a retired Lieutenant Colonel in the U.S. Army. He served in various military installations, including two tours in Vietnam. He was the recipient of the Silver Star Medal for valor, five Bronze Stars and the Air Medal. Following his military service, he was an Executive Assistant for Big Save and General Manager for Grove Farm Land Corporation. He was a past President of the United Japanese Society of Kauai and a former Director of the Hawaii Visitors Bureau. With a 5th Degree Black Belt, he was the President of the Hanapepe Judo Club for over 30 years and also the Commander of the Kauai Veterans Council until his passing.
He is survived by wife Merle of Hanapepe; sons Jason of San Diego and Brent (Megumi) of Honolulu; daughters Lori of Oakland and Tisha (Craig) Hamasaki of Honolulu; sisters Edna Kawamura of Waimea and Elizabeth (Melvin) Tanita of Pearl City; and four granddaughters.
Visitation: 11:00 a.m. Saturday, February 18 at the Kauai Veterans Cemetery, Hanapepe followed by services at 12:30 p.m. No flowers.
