JON E. SCHMEISERJON E. SCHMEISER
Jon E Schmeiser of Aiea, HI, 63 years young, passed away on Jan 30, 2012, in the VA Center, Honolulu, after a courageous battle with prostate cancer. Jon was born in Ellenville, NY and attended Valley Central where he was an All-State wrestler. He earned his BS degree from Clarkson College and a Master's Degree from Pepperdine University.
He was assigned to US Army, HQ 9th ARCOM and retired as Lieutenant Colonel. Jon's civilian career included serving as an IRS Revenue Agent, Management Analyst, Army Telecommunications Specialist, and a State Dept Diplomatic Courier. In return for his service Jon was able to travel to all parts of the world.
Jon volunteered for, and participated in, many numerous community events. He was a dedicated Faerber Flyer's Running Coach and appeared in the HI Opera Theater Production of Aida. Eating was Jon's passion and running was his chosen sport. Jon completed the prestigious Boston Marathon three times.
He is survived by his wife, Nellie Lee, his mother Myrna Schmeiser of Walden, NY; his brothers Marc Schmeiser and Michael Schmeiser; his sister, Julie Marburger; as well as many nieces and nephews. Jon was predeceased by his father John J Schmeiser and his sister Stephanie Tillson.
During his very active life not a day went by without Jon's signature greeting, "It's another beautiful day." He will be missed by everyone who knew him. A memorial service will be held Feb 29, 3:00 pm at Aliamanu Military Reservation (AMR) Chapel, 1085 Bougainvillea Loop, Honolulu. Aloha attire. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to National Parks Conservation Association.
