Ichiro "Rick" Awa, 79, of Hilo, a retired Jack's Tours Co. mechanic and retired Army sergeant, died at home. He was born in Hilo. He is survived by sons Richard, Roy and Stanford; daughter Jeanette Dela Cruz; hanai sons Francis "Boydy" Makaiwi, and Duwayne, Harvey, Milton and Rodney Waipa; hanai daughters Nadine Aceret and Natalie M. Ulibas; sisters Mitsuko Tsuha, Judy Yamamoto, Helen Oba and Lillian Awa; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Committal services and burial: 9 a.m. Friday at Hawaii Veterans Cemetery No. 2. No flowers.
