Carl Mailani "Sonny" LorenzCARL MAILANI "SONNY" LORENZ
1925 - 2012
Age 87, passed away peacefully on June 25, 2012 with his beloved wife at his side. Born in Honolulu, Carl attended Roosevelt High School and joined his father's trade as a welder at Pearl Harbor, where he witnessed the devastation of December 7, 1941. He served in the Army and retired as a life insurance general agent.
Carl found joy in the simple things; he loved and respected the ocean. As a father he loved and nurtured by example, showing his joy of life with humor and warm affection. He taught his children the meaning of honor, respect, and the ethics of hard work. He warmed the hearts of everyone he met and always had a song in his heart and on his lips. He befriended many at the Marco Polo, Central Union Church ADHC, Franciscan ADC, Atkinson Y and the 24-Hour Fitness.
Upon retirement, he and his wife traveled on cruises, creating some of their fondest memories of their life together. He spent the last years at home in the devoted care of his wife, where he knew love, peace, humor, joy, security and good food.
He is survived by wife Sylvia, son Charles Lorenz; daughters, Andrea von Lossberg, Lucinda, Jane and Mary Lorenz; five siblings, 11 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.
A celebration of his life will be held on Friday, July 13, at Nuuanu Memorial Park & Mortuary. Visitation 10 a.m., service 11 a.m. Aloha attire. No flowers please.
Our deepest condolences to the family and friends of the deceased
