HARRY MITSUYOSHI WATANABE
Harry M. Watanabe, age 83, passed away on Thursday, May 10, 2012 after a brief illness.
Born on March 10, 1929 in Huleia, Kauai, he was the son of Takekichi (father) and Yori (mother) Watanabe. The youngest of four children-his eldest sister is Takeko, his eldest brother was Walter (deceased), and his middle brother is Kenneth.
He is survived by his wife Blanche, his son Laren (Laura), his daughter Leane (Craig) Ziebell, granddaughter Justyn, grandson Jeffrey.
He proudly served in the Army Reserve and retired on March 10, 1989 as a Master Sergeant (E8). He was also a dedicated member of the Hawaii Army Reserve Rifle Team where he won the prestigious "President's 100" (awarded to the top 100 competitive shooters in the country including all the US military services and civilian shooting clubs.)
He worked for the US Postal Service where he progressed from a mail sorter and clerk to become the US Postal Service Safety Manager for the Pacific Region. He retired from the US Postal Service in 1987.
When his wife joined him in retirement in 1992, he and Blanche traveled extensively around the world including North America, the Caribbean, Europe and Asia.
Beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle, friend and mentor to many, Harry will be deeply missed.
