The family of Bert Takeshi Higa is deeply saddened to announce his sudden passing on November 6, 2012 at the age of 64. He is survived by his devoted wife Janice (Urabe) Higa, his special and close friend son Chad, his beloved sister Gladys Higa, and his treasured pets Taffy and Yuki. Bert was born on September 20, 1948 in Honolulu, Hawaii. He worked tirelessly for over 40 years at the Honolulu Advertiser. He eventually rose to become a Supervising Night Pressman. When Gannett sold the Honolulu Advertiser to the Honolulu Star-Advertiser, he was re-hired by the new company, retaining his position as Supervising Night Pressman. He was a fair and well-liked supervisor. Bert's passions were bowling and golfing. After the birth of his son, he devoted his waking hours to care for his son. He tutored his son in basketball, volleyball, baseball, and golfing. In later life, he returned to the sport he loved, golfing. He enjoyed tremendously his golfing trips yearly to the neighbor islands with family and lifetime friends. His family, relatives, and friends will miss his good, loving, and joking nature and his generosity. Visitation from 3:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., Sunday, December 9, 2012, at Nuuanu Memorial Park & Mortuary in Honolulu. Services at 4:00 p.m. Casual Attire. No flowers.
