Joseph Torres Mendez, 79, of Honolulu, a retired federal government firefighter and a Marine Corps veteran, died at home. He was born in Paia, Maui. He is survived by wife Norie, sons Joseph and Gary, daughters Cheryl Nelson and Twyla Mendez, six grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Visitation: 10 a.m. Dec. 27 at Nuuanu Memorial Park & Mortuary. Services: 11 a.m. Graveside services: 8:30 a.m. Dec. 28 at National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific, Punchbowl. Casual attire.
