JUANITA KALAHAU’OLI GERAKAS (NEE STEPHEN)JUANITA KALAHAU'OLI GERAKAS (NEE STEPHEN)
Age 84 of Honolulu, passed away peacefully on December 25, 2012 with her beloved husband of 62 years and six months at her side. An alumna of St. Andrew's Priory and the University of Hawaii, she was a retired DOE teacher at Haha'ione Elementary School. Her Hawaiian name Kalahau'oli means "Happy Day," which is a perfect description of the gifts she gave every day of her quick wit, personality plus, generosity, empathy, wisdom, intellect, and unconditional love. She will be deeply missed by her husband Andrew, a Deacon at Star of the Sea Church for 31 years. She was lovingly cared for by her youngest son John who carries on her legacy of aloha. The two of them enjoyed many pastimes (movies, barbeques, music, driving, etc.) and laughs. They also embodied the personality of the family with multiple lifelong friends. Her oldest son, Michael, who was an only child for his first fourteen years, shared a special communication bond with her and inherited her dedication to family. She was the BFF of her daughter Mary who was blessed to have her as a role model. Survived by her beloved family including her husband Andrew, sons Michael (Lydia) and John and daughter Mary (Geoffrey) Wellein. Also survived by her grandchildren David (Kayleigh) Gerakas and Maria Kalahau'oli Gerakas, Max Andrew Wellein and Stephen Wellein who loved their "Nana" dearly. She is also survived by her loving sister Edna Lai Hipp and an extended family of nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws, and great nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held at 9:30am on Saturday, January 12, 2013 at Star of the Sea Catholic Church with Mass and reception to follow. Burial will be held on Monday, January 14, 2013 at 11:00am at Kaneohe Veterans Cemetary. Aloha attire. No flowers please.
