CAROL WAI SUE SETOCAROL WAI SUE SETO
Carol Wai Sue Seto died peacefully on January 18, 2013, at home surrounded by her family. She was born in Honolulu on Christmas Day, 1933, to Alice and Hung Yu Ching and was raised in Makiki and Kaimuki with her sister and brother. Carol was in the first graduating class of University High School, and received her recreational therapy degree from the University of Hawaii. She moved to Ann Arbor, Michigan, where her new husband, Dudley, started medical school. Carol was the first recreational therapist hired by the University of Michigan's Department of Psychiatry and created its first recreational therapy program. She set aside her career to become a supportive wife, nurturing mother, and community volunteer. Her children and grandchildren were her life's work and joy. Carol gave her gift of friendship to everyone she met during her full life. And she will be remembered for her selfless generosity, kindness to others, devotion to family and friends, and effervescent sense of humor. Besides her beloved Dudley, and siblings Eric (Laura) Ching and Loretta Abe, she leaves behind her children: Cindy (Jay) Hartwell, Keith (Debbie) Seto, Cheryl Seto, and Cathy (Reid) Silva; grandchildren Chloe and Thomas Hartwell; Hannah Silva; Sarah, Stephanie, and Matthew Seto; brothers and sisters-in-law, cousins, nephews and nieces. Visitation will be at 9:30 a.m., this Friday, January 25, at Nuuanu Memorial Park and Mortuary, East Chapel. Service will begin at 11:00 a.m. Private burial.
