Dagmar Cooke Hegland
DAGMAR COOKE HEGLAND Of Santa Barbara, CA, passed away January 18, 2013, at the age of 91. Raised in Honolulu, she was the fourth of five children born to Richard Alexander and Dagmar Sorenson Cooke. She was the great grand daughter of Amos Starr and Juliette Montague Cooke, who came to Hawaii as missionaries. She attended Punahou School, then Miss Halls School (Massachusetts) and Sarah Lawrence College (New York). She was married to David Leroy Hegland for 62 years. Together they had an interesting, adventurous life, living in nine different countries. They retired to an Australian cattle ranch before ultimately moving to Santa Barbara. Dagmar is survived by her three children, Del Hegland, Lloyd Hegland and Lani Zabor as well as grandchildren Jennie Lee, Shelley Malia, David James and Ian Thomas, and two great grandchildren. She will be remembered for her smile and joy of life.
