John "Sonny" Kaiewe Jr., 83, of Hilo, a retired U.S. Department of the Interior resource management specialist at Hawaii Volcanoes National Park and a veteran of the Army and Hawaii Army National Guard, died at home. He was born in Olaa, Hawaii. He is survived by wife Cecilia; son John III; daughters Gail Laila Aguiar, Martha Ann K. Aquino and Hulali Kane; brothers Oliver, Archie, William, Donald and Solomon "Solo" Fujiyama, and William "Cowboy" Ahuna and Jimmy Jones; sisters Linda Jones, Jennie Kauai MaCadang; Priscilla Soto; Lei Cabiling, Nona Weaver, Gladys Nakoa and Thelma Readon; 11 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren. Visitation: 9 a.m. May 7 at Dodo Mortuary, Hilo. Celebration of life: 10 a.m. Burial to follow at Hawaii Veterans Cemetery No. 2. Aloha attire.
