Frances passed away peacefully in her sleep after a long illness on May 15, 2013. She was born on January 19, 1935 at Walter Reed Army Hospital, Washington DC. Frances retired with 29 years of federal government service from Human Resources, Marine Forces Pacific at Camp Smith. Frances was a volunteer at the Hawaiian/Sony Open for 30 years. She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Robert E. Gwaltney; daughters Kathryn M. Salomon (Alfred) of Kailua- Kona, Mary F. Tavares (Harold) of Kapolei; five Grandchildren; And brother Frank Nowak (Dixie) of Yorktown, VA.; Preceded in death by her son, Michael R. Gwaltney. Friends may call from 9:00 am June 17, 2013 at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church in Pearl City, followed by a Memorial mass at 1000. Inurnment will be at 1030, June 18 at the National Cemetery of the Pacific, Punchbowl. Family requests that Aloha attire be worn for the services and In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in her memory to St. Francis Home Health Care 24 Puiwa Road Honolulu HI 96817.
