Herbert Cardoza, also known as "Richard" and "Da Bread Man," 78, of Ookala, Hawaii, a state heavy-equipment operator, rancher and a Hawaii Army National Guard veteran, died in North Hawaii Community Hospital. He was born in Hilo. He is survived by daughters Jennifer and Rochelle Silva, Michelle, Lisa and Peggy Cardoza, and Joann Maximo; sister Clara Valente; 10 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. Visitation: 5 p.m. Monday at Dodo Mortuary, Hilo. Services: 6:30 p.m. Cremation to follow. Additional visitation: 8:30 a.m. July 20 at St. Anthony Catholic Church, Papaaloa. Mass: 10 a.m. Casual attire.
