Margareta Susan Dahlsten HughesMARGARETA SUSAN DAHLSTEN HUGHES Susan, 84, died peacefully in her sleep in Annapolis, MD on June 8, 2013 following a long battle with Alzheimer's. She was born in Changchun, China on Feb 18, 1929 to Swedish missionary parents; received her BS in nursing from The Hospital of the Good Samaritan in Los Angeles in 1950; married William H. Hughes in 1954; served as an officer in the US Army; and dedicated her lifetime to service, travel and adventure. A 35 year resident of Honolulu, Hawaii, she worked with Head Start in Palolo and Palama Settlement and nursing at both Queen's Hospital and Tripler Army Medical Center. Her interests were education, science, nutrition, mental and physical health, travel, and reading. She competed in several Honolulu marathons completing her last at age 65. Her overriding passion was her family who she now leaves behind: four children, 11 grandchildren, and 1 great-grandson who will miss her endless love, enthusiasm, energy, and faith. She is also survived by one brother and sister and numerous nieces and nephews. Donations in her memory may be made to the Alzheimer's Organization.
