Tallulah Jean Gibb Bennett
TALLULAH GIBB BENNETT Tallulah Gibb Bennett of Hilo, Hawaii died in her home on July 4th, 2013 at the age of 95. She was born on May 14, 1918 on the Honolulu Plantation at Aiea, Oahu. Her childhood was spent in Wailuku, Maui, where her father, James A. Gibb, was assistant manager of Wailuku Sugar Co. Tallulah graduated from Los Gatos High School in 1935, attended Dominican College, and taught in California prior to WWII. During the war, she served in the Red Cross in the South Pacific. After the war, she returned to Hawaii and married Francis L. "Roy" Bennett at St. Augustine's Church in Honolulu on January 7, 1947. The couple had four children. During her teaching career, Tallulah taught in private and public schools on Oahu and the Big Island. She is survived by her sister, Vance Gibb Randolph; her children: Charles Patrick Bennett of Hilo; Kathleen (Cliff) Cullings of Alaska, Timothy (Ann) Bennett of Waimea, and Edith A. Bennett of California; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and many close cousins. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Hospice of Hilo. Interment will take place at Punchbowl Cemetery in Honolulu on 7/23 at 1PM.
