Samuel L. Keala Jr.
SAMUEL L. KEALA JR, Of Honolulu, Hawaii, passed away at the Hi'olani Care Center-Kahala Nui, Oahu on June 28, 2013 at the age of 85 following a lengthy illness. He was born on June 16, 1928 in Honolulu, Oahu. He graduated from St. Louis College in 1946 and graduated from University of Portland in civil engineering. As Engineer for Lihue Plantation Company (Amfac) on Kauai from 1956 to 1973, Sam lead the transition from rail to trucking and supervised construction of 100 miles of private plantation road as well as the Lihue Shopping Center and Office Building. Sam became the Project Engineer in 1973 for The James Campbell Estate developing the City of Kapolei, Waikele and University of Hawaii West Oahu. Having a passion for playing Hawaiian music, Sam is survived by former wife, Jalna; daughter, Kathryn (Ford) Keala; sons, Lynden (Lani) Keala, Graydon 'Buddy'(Kathleen) Keala, Kauai, Malcolm 'Kaina' (Junine) Keala, Perth, Australia. Sam had 7 granddaughters and one grandson. He has one living brother, the former Chief of Police, Honolulu County, Francis Keala. A celebration of life will be held on Thursday, July 25, 2013 at Star of the Sea Church with visitation from 9:00 a.m. to 9:45 am. Mass to follow. Casual attire. Sam will have an ocean burial at a later date. Any flowers will be donated to Kahala Nui Care Center.
