ELSYE WONG KWOKELSYE WONG KWOK Elsie (Elsye) Wong Kwok, 96, of Honolulu, died July 9 2013. On a family voyage to China at age 18, she met Merle Norman who introduced and personally trained her in the use of her cosmetics. Upon arrival in Shanghai, China, Elsye opened the first Merle Norman Cosmetic Studio in China. Some of her customers were the Kwok women of the Wing On Dept. Store. It was at that time, she met her future husband, George Kwok. Twenty years later, she moved to Honolulu with her family and started a Merle Norman Cosmetic Studio in Waikiki. She remained at the same location for 45 years until her retirement at age 84. Her passions were mah jong and bridge. She attained the rank of Life Master with the ACBL (American Contract Bridge League) She is survived by sons Ronald (Caroline) Kwok, and Dr. Eric (Lenora) Kwok; daughter Audrey Kwok (Weiland Tang); six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; brother Wallace Wong and sister, Bessie Lee. A private service was held.
