William (Bill) Stephen Miller
WILLIAM (BILL) STEPHEN MILLER Of Honolulu, Hawaii passed away on July 5, 2013 at his home in Honolulu. Bill was born October 24, 1949 inHuntington Park, Californiato Hazel and LawrenceMiller. He graduated from Huntington Park High School as Senior Class President and received the B'nai B'rith award for outstanding student. He graduated from the University of California at Santa Barbara in 1971, cum laude, and Hastings College of the Law in San Francisco in 1974 where he was a member of the Hastings Law Review. Bill practiced law with the Honolulu law firm Goodsill Anderson Quinn & Stifel for 25 years. He successfully litigated professional malpractice, products liability and insurance bad faith claims, major contract disputes, real estate, title insurance matters, and construction disputes. He was a member of the California and Hawaii Bar Associations and was listed in the "Best Lawyers" Directory, widely regarded as a significant honor, conferred on a lawyer by his or her peers. He also served on the Board of Directors for Mothers Against Drunk Driving. Although Bill had a full career, he always found time for his other loves -- music, sports, and books. He was a proud member of the Beatles fan club. He hiked the John Muir Trail, paddled a kayak down the Colorado River, and ran several marathons. Bill suffered from hereditary spasticparaplegia, a rare disease whichcausesprogressive weakness in the legs, for which there is no cure. But this did not stop Bill from enjoying his favorite sport, swimming. Even in the late stages of his disorder he would have his caregiver bring him to a pool in Hawaii Kai for a swim. Bill's collection of books was eclectic and vast, from How to Make Money in the Stock Market toStephen Hawking'sABrief History of Time. Above all, Bill's one true love in life was his daughter, Julia. Billis survived by his daughter Julia Miller of Los Angeles, California, his nephew John Randolph of Hanover, New Hampshire and his sister Marilyn Randolph of Pasadena, California. A memorial service will be held on August 20, 2013 at The Outrigger Canoe Club at 5:30 PM.
