Irene Smith, 85, of Haleiwa, a retired nurse at Kahuku and St. Francis hospitals, and a Navy ensign, died in Haleiwa. She was born in New Haven, Conn. She is survived by sons Michael A., David A., Frederick T. and Kyran O.; daughters Maris van der Lee, Catherine L. Phelps and Judith L. Barber; brother Thomas O'Brien; and 12 grandchildren. Committal services: 11:30 a.m. Friday at National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific, Punchbowl. In lieu of flowers and monetary offerings, donations suggested to Kapiolani Medical Center for Women & Children.
