MARY RUTH RUSHMARY RUTH RUSH Mary Ruth Rush, age 82, passed away on 16 Sept 2013 in Shalimar, Florida. She was born in Pasadena, California. She spent the first half of her life in California. After being widowed at an early age she became the first women to participate as a crewmember in the Los Angeles to Tahiti Trans Pacific Yacht Race in 1968. That brought her to Hawaii where she met her second husband. They were married in 1970. During her twenty years in her beloved Hawaii, she was a member of the Hawaii Yacht Club and active with the Polynesian Voyaging Society. She was a member and several times president of the Olomana Community Association. In 1993 she and her husband moved to Shalimar, Fl. where In 1996 she founded the Poquito Bayou Community Association. In 2013 Okaloosa County honored her work naming the Pavilion in Poquito Bayou's neighborhood park the "the "Mary Rush Pavilion". She is survived by her husband Gerald "Jerry" Rush, three sons; Jon Quist of Kailua, Hawaii, James Quist of Jacksonville, FL and Andrew Rush of Shalimar, Fl. , sister Jane Magwood of California and four grandchildren.
