BESSIE LEIALOHA MALINA CHONG
BESSIE LEIALOHA MALINA CHONG Born Aug. 24, 1944 died of an aneurism on Nov. 16, 2012, in Irvine, CA. Her sister and niece, Darlene & Lisa Tamanaha, with faithful friends Maria Valaskes & Ku'uipo Lage, and daughters Patricia & Kahiwa were at her bedside. Bessie was a Waikiki "hula baby" starting her career at 3 years old. She graduated from Kaimuki High School, class of '62. She is preceded in death by parents William K. Malina & Leatrice Y.Y. Grubb, and siblings Lydia Werner & William "Sony" Malina. She lives on through her children Danny (Marcy) Chong, Danielle Kahiwa (Dean) Chow and their 7 kids, and Patricia (Gary) McGinness and their 5 kids & 4 grandchildren, and Step-Father Merrill Grubb, and siblings Leatrice Lum, Bernard (Jackie) Malina, Darlene Tamanaha, Derrick (Aiyako) Grubb, Denise Dela Pena, William Malina, and 129 nieces & nephews. A beautiful remembrance dinner took place on Feb. 16, 2012 at Tree Tops of Manoa. Mahalo to the Malina, Grubb, Wun, and Chow 'ohana, and loyal friends for making mom's life meaningful and complete. May her life continue to serve a greater purpose ~ love one another and be happy! Her ashes will be spread at a later date. Aloha & God bless all.
