JAMES SETLIFF Mr. James A. Setliff, age 84, will be remembered with a memorial service commemorating his return to Hawaii to be with his beloved Maggie. The memorial service will be held on Sunday, January 12, 2014 2:00 pm at the First Unitarian Church of Honolulu, 2500 Pali Hwy. Casual or Aloha attire. Jim was born in Lynchburg, Tennessee on July 18, 1926. After service in the U.S. Navy, Jim became a professor of chemistry and a research scientist. He was associated with Furman University, Vanderbilt University, Stanford University and the University of Hawaii, where he retired after twenty years of service. While in Hawaii Jim met and married Maggie (Margaret Holden Setliff) who was well known in legal circles having served as the State Law Librarian. The Setliffs supported many social causes and Maggie was a lay minister in the Unitarian Church. In 1992, Jim and Maggie moved from Honolulu to Atlanta, Georgia where they created a life on the mainland that included many friends who depended on their wisdom and experience. Jim and Maggie were married for more than 40 years until her death in 2007. Jim died January 15, 2011 in Atlanta after a brief illness.
