Professor David J. Kalupahana
PROFESSOR DAVID J. KALUPAHANA Beloved husband, brother, father, and grandfather, a well-known author and scholar of Buddhist literature from Sri Lanka passed away Wednesday, January 15 in Honolulu where he was living since 1972. He passed peacefully in his home with his wife at his side. Prof. Kalupahana has authored numerous books and publications on Buddhist philosophy. He obtained his BA (Sri Lanka, 1959), Ph.D (London) and was Emeritus Professor of Philosophy. He was a renown specialist in Early Buddhist Theory. He left the University of Ceylon (1972) to join the University of Hawaii, where he taught for 28 years. Prof. Kalupahana is survived by his wife Indrani, brother Doctor RA Kalupahana, sons Nandana and Milinda, daughter Dimati, son-in-law Kevin, and granddaughters Shayla and Kendra. Funeral service will be held on January 21st, 2014, at 3:00 p.m. at the Oahu Cemetery in Honolulu, Hawaii.
