EDNA FUNAYAMA
1-22 EDNA FUNAYAMA B&WEDNA FUNAYAMA Edna Funayama, age 68, passed away tragically on January 3, 2014. She was born in Puunene, Maui and was the youngest daughter of Gosuke and Asayo Funayama. In 1963, Edna graduated from Baldwin High School. During that time, Edna was "crazy for Elvis Presley." She was an "independent, single, modern woman". After graduating from Business College, she left Hawaii for life on the mainland. In the late 70's, Edna returned to Hawaii. On May 31, 2000, after 29 years of service, she retired from her job as secretary to the Dean at the University of Hawaii, School of Medicine. Edna loved to travel and was fortunate to tour many places. Edna believed in healthy living and enjoyed her classes and friends at the YMCA. She belonged to a non-denominational church and believed in guardian angels and the spirit world. Edna is survived by her longtime companion and "roommate" of 33 years, Rev. Harley (Hal) Beagle, her brother Donald, her sisters Jane Shinoda (John), and Irene Arakaki (Tony). She is preceded by her parents and her brother, Warren Funayama. We fondly remember Edna's strong positive spiritual nature and her willingness to help others in need. A celebration of her life will be held at Nuuanu Memorial Park on January 26, 2014 at 11 a.m. Please come in Aloha attire and wear a little purple in remembrance of her favorite color.

Our deepest condolences to the family and friends of the deceased
