ALFREDO DOMINIC LAGASO Alfredo Lagaso's life was and forever will be set to music. Al was born in 1937 in Pahoa, Hawaii. By the time he graduated from Pahoa High School, the self-taught musician had mastered the piano, clarinet, saxophone, guitar, upright base and ukulele. Al earned a degree in music education from UH. In 1964 he joined Ewa Beach High and Intermediate School and composed the school's alma mater which was sung in 1965 by the first graduating class of the newly formed James Campbell High School. In 1975, he became the school's first student activities coordinator and served in that position until retiring in 1998. During his career, he was also music director for Aldersgate United Methodist Church, the Pamana Singers, and associate conductor of the Hawaii Ecumenical Chorale. Al also served on the board of the Wesley Foundation, Susannah Wesley Community Center, and was one of the original members of Faith Action for Community Equity. Al passed away on March 10 at home, surrounded by family. He is survived by wife Natividad Lagaso; brother Edwin Lagaso; sister Rose Malakaua; daughters Nadine Lagaso, Almarie Lagaso and Trisha Lagaso Goldberg; son-in-law David Goldberg; grandson Primo Lagaso Goldberg; nieces and nephews.
