FAMILY PLACED OBITUARY

RICHARD "RICK" M. MOSS
3-30 RICHARD MOSS NEW COLOR PHOTORICHARD RICK M. MOSS Rick Moss, P.E., 64, of Honolulu, Hawaii passed away March 22, 2014 at home after a courageous battle with throat cancer. He was born in Petaluma, CA, the son of Lorraine E Moss and the late Myrel A Moss of California. Rick came to Hawaii after seeing Elvis' movie, Blue Hawaii. He fell in love with the islands and the people. After graduating from the University of Hawaii with a degree in Electrical Engineering, he worked at Toft Moss Farrow, then left in 1994 to start his own company, Moss Engineering. Rick traveled extensively and his favorite place was Bali. Always an inquisitive person, he would spend his vacations wandering through museums or exploring cities and towns, camera in hand. He enjoyed surfing, body surfing, and was a black run skier. He had a penchant for spy novels and read anything he could get his hands on. Rick's passions included antiques, trains and Harley Davidson motorcycles. He was proud of the fact that he was the "token haole" in the Ching Ohana, who loved him dearly and will miss him tremendously. He was a dedicated member of the Rotary Club of Hawaii and the Exchange Club of Downtown Honolulu. Each year he volunteered to serve Thanksgiving dinner to the foster families. And you could always find him socializing with the Boys Bunch every Tuesday night. He made many friends throughout his brief life and the following are comments from some of his friends upon learning of his passing: "..a great man, knowledgeable and sincere" PP "I always had the utmost respect and admiration for Rick across every conceivable dimension..solid guy with core values of the best kind." JM "..when we spoke, he was listening. A rare gift these days." VR "..will never forget his great sense of humor...his love of life and Hawaii, and how much he loved Val and his two beautiful kids." WB "..and afterward we went out and drank way too much wine. Guy bonding. He left a lot of people better for knowing him." TS Our dear Rick stood for integrity, morals and righteousness. He is gone but not forgotten, he lives on through the lessons and values he shared with his wife, children and all who were fortunate to know him.
