HELEN LORRAINE HUNTHELEN LORRAINE HUNT 6/13/18 - 1/23/14 Helen was born Helen Lorraine Atkins in Honolulu in 1918 to a kamaaina family from the Big Island. A Punahou graduate (1936), she married Wilfred Ernest Hunt on October 19th 1940. They were both educators at Island Paradise School for over 30 years. "Miss Helen" was a gifted teacher known for her ability to help students rapidly advance in reading comprehension. Helen succeeded her husband as Principal of IPS. After her retirement at age 72, they moved to Grants Pass, Oregon. While there, she volunteered as a teacher and helped the needy at St. Vincent DePaul. In-between her ongoing contributory work, she and Wilfred travelled throughout the continental United States. When her beloved husband passed away in 2007, Helen moved to Palm Springs to be near her youngest son, Robert. She is survived by her sister, Alice Ryan, and her 3 children, Dorothy Trinidad Hunt (Lynn Truaire), Ernest Hunt (JoDee), and Robert Hunt (Dean Carlson). At 95 years of age she was an inspiration to all - clear minded and energetic right to the end. Services will be at Star of the Sea (11:30am) on April 5, 2014. Scattering of the ashes by the family will be done at a later time.
