LEICHI HIGASHIGUCHI
4-6 LEICHI HIGASHIGUCHILEICHI HIGASHIGUCHI Age 87, of Honolulu passed away peacefully on March 15, 2014 in Straub Hospital. Born April 4, 1926 in Hana, Maui Hawaii to Jujieo and Natsue Higashiguchi, Leichi attended Hana Elementary and High School. After high school, he served his country in the European theater during WWII as part of the 100th Battalion, 442nd Infantry. After the war, he returned to Maui, and met and married the love of his life, Mildred Benevides. They were married for sixty-seven blissful years. A successful business man and entreprenuer, Leichi was the owner and president of Eastgate Distributors, a company he founded in 1981, specializing in the manufacture and fabrication of window covering. The consumate salesman, he spent his early career in sales for both Island Venetian Blind Company and Trends of Hawaii, rising to the position of sales manager. Leichi enjoyed the outdoors and working with youth. He spent 15 years as scoutmaster for Boy Scout Troop 29 at Star of the Sea School. During his tenure, the Troop won many local awards and scout competitions and produced many Eagle Scouts. He was the recipient of the St. George Medal, the highest award offered in Catholic scouting and the Honolulu District Award. Many of "Mr. H's" former scouts are now successful contributing members to society includig doctors, attorneys, business people and two generals. Leichi was a very active member and supporter of Star of the Sea Church. He was a regular lector at Sunday Mass and one of the original members of Club51. Leichi was passionate about University of Hawaii sports, especially football and basketball. He was a season ticket holder for both from Honolulu Stadium and Blaisdell Center days. Leichi is survived by hid wife Mildred of Honolulu, Daughters Laurie (Greg) Planas of Kauai, Julie Higashiguchi of Honolulu, Sons Mark (Faith) Hiashiguchi of Waipahu and Dennis (Kathleen) Higashiguchi of Honolulu, Brother George (Diane) Higashiguchi or Maui, 14 Grandchildren and 12 Great Grandchildren, and his beloved cat Taizo. Visitation 4/9 Wed. at 9:30 a.m. at Star of the Sea Church, 4470 Aikoa Street, Hon 96871, Mass at 11:00 a.m. Refreshments will be served in the parish social hall. Aloha Attire. No flowers, please.
