75Gunichi "Gunji" Matsuoka, 82, of Wailuku, a retired Maui County Fire Department assistant fire chief, died in Maui Memorial Medical Center. He was born in Puunene, Maui. He is survived by wife Setsuko "Bess"; daughters Lynn Carroll, Laurie Donato and Valerie Piano; brother Tokuji; sisters Flora Umeno, Elaine Ishikawa, Jane Gokan and Betty Sakado; four grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Visitation: 5:30 p.m. Sunday at Word of Truth Church, Old Maui Theatre, on Puunene Avenue, Kahului. Services: 7:30 p.m. Cremation to follow.
