CALVIN GORO WAKAI
4-20 CALVIN GORO WAKAICALVIN WAKAI Dec. 1927 - March 2014 Calvin Goro Wakai was a dream maker. He allowed thousands of people to purchase homes and assisted hundreds of entrepreneurs in starting or expanding their businesses. He spent 35 years as a manager and Vice President at Bank of Hawaii. Calvin wanted to be close to customers and managed branches in Ewa Beach, Aiea, Kaimuki, and Wahiawa. Prior to retiring in 1992, he purchased Globe Travel Agency and took customers to see cherry blossoms in Japan, UH football road games, and European cruises. He embraced community service and was active with the Wahiawa-Waialua Rotary Club. He was the club's ambassador to Japan and a stalwart supporter of providing scholarships to area students. He ascended to heaven to join his wife Ruth, who passed away five months prior. Calvin is survived by his, daughter, Dawn Hussey-Riggs; son, Glenn; brothers Mas, Coolidge, and Ted; 3 grandchildren; and 1 great grandchild. A funeral will be held on Sunday, April 27, at Makiki Christian Church, 829 Pensacola St. Visitation from 4 pm. Service begins at 5:00 pm.
