MINNIE WONG LIUMINNIE WONG LIU Farrington High School Teacher Minnie Wong Liu of Honolulu, Hawaii, passed away on March 2, 2014 after a brief illness. She was born in Honolulu on May 21, 1915, and moved with her family to Kauai soon after. She returned to Honolulu to attend Central Intermediate and McKinley High School. Minnie furthered her education at the University of Hawaii at Manoa graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree followed by a Teaching Certificate a year later. Minnie started her teaching career at Makaweli School on Kauai, then at Waianae and finally ending up at Farrington High School where her teaching career spanned 4 decades. It was at Farrington where she met her future husband and fellow teacher, Herbert Liu. Minnie devoted her time and energy to serve the Kapalama School Cub Scouts, Kalihi Union Church Troop 39 Boy Scouts and the Kalakaua Lions Club. She was a big fan of the UH Football program and would attend many of the mainland road games during her retirement years when she and Herbert had what they considered the perfect retirement job - travel agents. They traveled all over the U.S. mainland, Canada, Mexico, South America and Europe. Minnie and Herbert were active members of the Moanalua Senior Citizens Club and Moanalua Gardens Missionary Church. Minnie joined the Kalihi Union Church Joy Fellowship for Seniors soon after Herbert's passing in 2006. Minnie was also a member of the Honolulu Country Club in Salt Lake and could be seen there several times a month hosting lunch and dinner get togethers for family and friends. Minnie is survived by sons Walton (Nelly) Liu of Honolulu, Crocker (Charlene) Liu of New York, grandsons Graam, Makana and Kupono, as well as by brothers Robert Wong, Alvin Wong and Cyrus Wong; sisters Vivian Eng, Stella Ching and Ruby Siu.
